Genealogy Friends of the Library
is a genealogical society whose
purpose is to promote interest in the field of
genealogy through educational programs, to collect
and disseminate genealogical knowledge and
information, and to provide volunteers and
financial support for the genealogy room of the
Neosho/Newton County Library.

. Through membership dues, fees,
contributions and fund‑raising activities
throughout the year, the acquisition of books,
microfilm, data CDs, microfiche, equipment and
furnishings for the Genealogy Room is made
possible. The Genealogy Room is open to the
public during regular library hours: Monday
thru Thursday 9:00 am - 8:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am -
5:30 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Resources
Available in the Genealogy Room include:
- Federal Censuses
for Missouri on microfilm (including 1930)
- Newton County
newspapers on microfilm beginning 1869
- Thousands of
original marriage licenses from 1930 - 1986
(For sale to family members)
- Obituary file -
Cemetery listings - Maps, as well as reference
materials for other Missouri counties.
Capabilities:
Microfilm Readers,
Reader/Printer, Books, Journals, Copy Machine,
OnLine Computer Data Bases, including Family Tree
Maker, Census indexes and other CD ROM Data Bases.

MEMBERSHIP:
Anyone
interested in genealogy or family history is
invited to become a member of the Genealogy
Friends of the Library. The membership year
is the calendar year, January 1 to December 31.
Annual dues are $12.00 for adults or $8.00 for
students under age 18. The lifetime
membership fee for an individual adult is $150.00.
(Senior citizen discount fee of $135.00 available
for those age 60 or older.)
Membership
includes a subscription to the quarterly
newsletter, NEWTON COUNTY ROOTS; free publication
of queries; plus other benefits. Regular
membership meetings are held the second Monday of
each month at
7:00
p.m.
Planned programs of genealogical and historical
interest are a part of each meeting.
Visitors are always welcome.

Genealogy Research
Neosho/Newton County Library staff in the
Genealogy Department may do very limited
research that can be accomplished within 30
minutes for copy and postage cost.
The GFOL Corresponding Secretary or an assistant
will do more extensive yet limited genealogy
research according to the following fee
schedule:
