Our Board of Directors
The Neosho/Newton County Library Board consists of nine (9) board members, five (5) members appointed from Newton County and four (4) members appointed from the City of Neosho. The Library Board meets regularly on the third Tuesday of each month. The Board President may call special meetings. The Board establishes goals and objectives and adopts rules, policies and regulations for the governing of the Library. All meetings of the Library Board are open to the public, unless otherwise specified.
Duties of the Library Board:
- To hire a capable, educated library director
- To secure adequate funds
- To determine and set library policy
- To approve expenditure of the library funds
- To approve disposal of surplus properties valued at more than $1,000
- To work actively for the improvement of all libraries by supporting library legislation in the state and nation
- To attend board meetings regularly. If a Board Member misses four meetings out of 6 meetings, the Board Member shall be reported by the Board President to the appointing board
